Local News: Ward To Close At Hospital

As news broke on Friday morning that the inpatient ward at a Bromyard Community Hospital is to temporarily close, this was met by disbelief from the town's residents.

The ward at the hospital is set to close for three months following "patient safety grounds", with its nurses likely to be redeployed elsewhere in the county; after hearing this, Cllr Seldon commented, "that doesn't sound temporary to me," when interviewed by the Hereford Times. One nurse, who wishes not to be identified, told the paper that when she was informed it was "a massive shock".

There will be a Public Meeting on Wednesday 26th August at 7pm in the Falcon Mews. The CEO of the Wye Valley Trust (WVT) will be there to answer any questions. Bromyard.info say "it appears that this was an emergency decision taken by the WVT Board."

Whatever the outcome of the meeting, falling staff levels at the hospital have led to the temporary closure of the ward from September 11th. The Trust say that the situation will be reviewed in 3 months.
