Worthing Bowling Club was established in 1907 and was originally based at Homefield Park—the site of the town's only bowling green. In 1924, when Beach House Park's first two greens opened, the club moved there. By 1938, eight clubs had been founded in the park, and a pavilion had been built. In 1972, the second men's Bowls World Championship was staged at Beach House Park, at which time another pavilion was added. Five years later, the third women's World Championship was also held, and in 1979 the Masters Tournament took place. The men's World Championship returned in 1992.All five greens have automatic irrigation facilities. As of 2013, four clubs are based at the park.
Bowls England, formerly the English Bowls Association, moved to the park in 1987 when it built its headquarters on the Lyndhurst Road side. Each summer, it organises the National Championships—an event which has taken place at Beach House Park every year since 1974.
A recent bowls survey has been carried out by the Worthing Tourist Information Centre and there are some interesting results included.
- People who visited Beach House Park are most commonly from West Sussex (14%) but other home town's are in Hampshire (6%), London (5%), Dorset (3%) and Birmingham (2%).
- 43% of the respondents said they had heard about the competition through their bowls club, 12% through Bowls England, 3% via the press, 16% through friends/family and of the 25% who said it was by some other means, the majority said they had been coming for years or just knew about it.
- 97% of those surveyed admitted they came to Worthing specifically for bowls but most of these would do be doing something other than playing/watching bowls.
- If you've never been to Beach House Park before, you can rest assured that the facilities are up to standard because 63% said they were good or excellent; 27% said they felt the facilities were average and the remaining 10% said they were poor or very poor. The reasons behind this included lack of things to do and the need to reintroduce a weekly ticket.
- Also in the survey was a question on transport: The majority of respondents (79%) said that they travelled by car, with no one saying they came on foot and only small numbers saying they came by bus, bike, coach or train.
- Of the 60% of correspondents staying in Worthing for 2 days or more, most (65%) stayed in a hotel with only a small majority (4%) caravanning or camping. 43% of these said they knew about their accommodation because they have stayed there in the past.
