New Bowls England Independent Director

Bowls England is delighted to confirm the appointment of Adam Tanner as its first Independent Director.

Adam, who graduated from the University of Warwick with a Law Degree in 2009, works as a Solicitor at Calor Gas Limited where his responsibilities include commercial law and dispute resolution.

Originally from Wiltshire, Adam has been involved in the sport of bowls from a young age, and became Manager of his home county’s White Rose Trophy team in 2011 and a Middleton Cup Selector in 2012. In his spare time Adam is a keen supporter of Swindon Town FC and continues to play amateur football himself.

David Mitchell-Gears, Chair of the Board of Bowls England, said: “The appointment of Adam as our first Independent Director is part of our continuing drive to ensure Bowls England meets the requirements of a modern National Governing Body of Sport. I am sure that through his experience, Adam will be in a position to challenge some of our current practices whilst bringing new ideas and new skills to the Board.
The position of Independent Director will replace the former role of Vice-Chair, which was held by Kent’s Peter Arnold for the past three years but who had earlier indicated that he would not stand for re-election in 2014.
Mr Mitchell-Gears added: “Peter gave excellent service to Bowls England, and previously the English Bowling Association, over many years. This included a great contribution during the formation of Bowls England, and he then served on the Board for six years. We wish to record our sincere thanks to him for his sterling efforts on behalf of the sport over this period.”

The appointments of Mr Mitchell-Gears and Mr Tanner were ratified at the Bowls England AGM held on Saturday 22nd February.
